Executive Function 2026
The Virginia Department of Education's Training and Technical Assistance Center at the Virginia Commonwealth University is inviting you to join us for any of these short, informative, virtual learning sessions related to executive function and building learner expertise. If you are a coach or other instructional leader, please join us for the full day in-person session on January 29!
- January 14, 2026 4-5 PM Virtual: How your routines can support executive skills
- January 28 and February 4, 2026 4-5 PM Virtual: Use TPRY to analyze visuals and create models
- February 25, 2026 4-5 PM Virtual: Use AAAWWUBBIS and FANBOYS to help students provide evidence
- March 4, 2026 4-5 PM Virtual: Move beyond Turn and Talk to help students with sense making
- March 18, 2026 4-5 PM Virtual: Use "rough draft thinking" to build students’ cognitive skills by working through errors--in any content area!
If you are a coach or instructional leader who provides support for inclusive teachers, join us for an in-depth workshop focused on cognitive task analysis, executive function, the New Classroom Instruction That Works, and Jim Knight's coaching model. At the end of that session, we will offer additional virtual support to participants to support implementation.

This collaborative professional learning session focuses on High-Leverage Practice 14: Cognitive and Metacognitive Strategies. Participants will examine how special education professionals can strengthen instructional decision-making to build student independence through self-study and teacher-as-researcher approaches.
