Instruction in Virginia's public schools is guided by the Standards of Learning.  The standards describe the Commonwealth's expectations for student learning and acheivement in grades K-12 in english, mathmatics, science, and history/social science. The Virginia Department of Education has provided the following content and grade level specific instructional resources to support classroom teachers:

Instructional Resources for Students Participating in the Virginia Alternate Assessment Program (VAAP) 

In Virginia, students with significant cognitive disabilities are instructed in content that has been reduced in complexity and depth. This content is derived from the Standards of Learning and is referred to as the Aligned Standards of Learning (ASOL).  Instructional resources for teachers of students participating in the VAAP have been developed by the Virginia Department of Education.
